About the Item

Antique Chinese porcelain Charger. Kangxi period Imari plate featuring cranes and flowering plants and other motifs like Bamboo and chrysanthemums symbolizing longvity. In China cranes have a spiritual meaning where they are a form of divine bird which travels between heaven and man's world. The crane mythology is related with the divine bird worship in animal totemism Kangxi reign 1662-1722. A fine early Chinese Charger handpainted in deep underglaze cobalt and enriched with iron-red and gold gilding, the so called Imari pallette Origin China, Jingdezhen. Condition: 2 hairlines (restored) and on the back a rim chip Diameter 15.1in - 38.5cm Height 1.9 - 4.8cm Chinese Imari is a style of porcelain produced in China, influenced by Japanese Imari porcelain. Chinese Imari was first appeared during the Kangxi reign (1662-1722) in imitation of the highly in demand Japanese Imari ware, which had gained popularity in Europe. The style derived from a period of intense economic competition between Chinese and Japanese porcelain production for the European market. It's heyday of Chinese Imari was between approximately 1715 and 1735.
