About the Item
A stylish and delightful antique Chinese Qing famille rose porcelain trencher salt dating from the 18th century. The salt stands raised on a shaped rectangular base with a wide rimmed top and recessed oval salt holder. The foot is unglazed with gilded and painted patterning in underglaze blue to the lower foot edge with the salt hand painted with floral designs in the famille rose palette and set within a formal painted and gilded border. The top edge of the salt with a yellow stained finish. The salt is not marked.
Offered in good condition with some kiln debris around the foot and with slight age rubbing to elements of the patterning, however nothing to detract.
Provenance: From a wonderful and choice collection of small cabinet pieces many of which we are currently offering on 1stdibs. Acquired in the UK Art Market.
