About the Item

A rare and attractive pair Chinese Qing Jun-ware Foo dogs decorated in liver red glazes and dating from around 1850. The porcelain dogs are heavily made and stand raised on rectangular pierced hollow pedestal bases and stand looking sideways with open mouths and resting a raised front paw one on a ball and the other on a puppy dog. The dogs have large bulging eyes with their tongues resting on teeth both wearing collars with hanging elements. The dogs are decorated in thick liver red flow glazes leaving cream highlights. Both are unmarked with unglazed bases and are an unusual. Provenance: acquired from the UK art market. In good condition with some minor wear and losses, possibly touched in around the bases, and with a chip, possibly in the making to the tail of the puppy dog.
