About the Item
A stylish antique Chinese Qing sancai glazed porcelain joss stick holder formed as an oasis or pen with cows and palm tree dating from the early 19th century. The hand-crafted joss stick holder is of rounded shape with a raised and shaped edge decorated with a simple hand applied feathered pattern with a raised back section applied with a shelf supporting a standing cow seeking shade under a palm tree while a further cow sits resting on the base and is set between two raised stems formed as joss stick holders. The holder is hand painted in bright sancai glazes in blue, yellow, green and brown with patches of white. The base is unglazed and the holder is not signed.
The piece is offered in good condition with a professional restoration to the leaves on the palm tree.
Provenance: acquired from the UK Art Market in the 1980/90’s.
