About the Item
A wonderful glaze typical of Chinese "Shiwan" pottery adorns this early 20th Century Chinese storage jar. The jar likely occupied a private home to store grains or other household dry staples. This jar also features a predominantly turquoise pigment and a wonderful faded texture. Shiwan ware is a style of Chinese pottery from the Shiwanzhen district near Guangdong. In the modern-day, this would make for a beautiful decorative bowl or as a planter for one's home garden. The marks and stains to the jar which have developed over the past century contribute to its charm.
