About the Item

This super early-style Seto ware mizusashi (water container for the tea ceremony) dates to the Edo period (18th–19th century) and exemplifies the understated elegance and functional beauty characteristic of early Seto ceramics. Valued for their simplicity and quiet presence, such vessels played an essential role in the tea ceremony, serving as containers for fresh water used in the preparation of tea. The form is balanced and restrained, with subtle surface variations that reflect hand-throwing and traditional kiln firing. The vessel retains its original wooden lid, an important element that enhances both its authenticity and historical integrity. The mizusashi remains in good condition, with no leaks, and shows only minor signs of age consistent with careful use over time. Dimensions: 22.5 × 18.5 cm (8.8 × 7.3 in) Weight: 3.4 kg (7.5 lb) Period: Edo period (18th–19th century) ⸻ International Buyers — Please Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping costs.
