Japan hard to find early antique set of three hand-painted and hand enameled ceramic Imari KOI Fish Bowls, 1850. Notice the highly detailed beautiful under glazed blue and white colors and attractive over glazed classic red enamels. Hand painted blue and white under glaze with Imari's famous red and gold over glazing. These are early works of art and date to the late Edo period, 1850. This type is called kinrande, colored porcelain and ceramic with underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze red and gold. The color combination was not seen in China in early days. Traditional Ming dynasty color porcelain used dominantly red and green, probably due to scarcity of gold in China, whereas gold was abundant in Japan in that era. The subject matter for Arita's porcelain history is diverse, ranging from foliage and flowers to people, scenery and abstractions. Dimensions: largest is 9.5 inches diameter and 3.25 inches tall smallest is 7.5 inches diameter and 2.5 inches tall Hard to find. History of Imari: Imari ware (Imari-yaki) is a type of Arita ware traditionally made in the town of Arita, in the former Hizen Province, northwestern Kyushu. They were exported to Europe extensively from the port of Imari, Saga, between the second half of the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century.
