This is a hard earthenware called "sueki" （sue pottery）in Japan. Soft unglazed earthenware, which had been baked at low temperatures in Japanese history, has been baked at high temperatures since the 4th century due to the development of kiln technology. Baking at high temperatures makes the pottery harder and harder to crack. The color is light gray pottery. This is a technology that came from the Korean Peninsula. Some of them have a design similar to the pottery of the Korean Peninsula, Some are made by imitating Chinese bronze ware. Born in Osaka, "sueki" is gradually being made in various parts of Japan. I think this is a work burned in Aichi prefecture. Made in the 6th-9th centuries. In the "Sanage" region of Aichi prefecture, there is a kiln that made pottery for the upper class. (The location of Sanage is marked with a red circle in the photographic material) I think this item is a work of the kiln. It is carefully made and has a very beautiful design. There is no distortion. It is thought that it is an item used by upper class people. There are some parts that are missing in the mouth, but other than that, the condition is good. Since it is an excavated item, there are places where the glaze (natural glaze) has peeled off on the surface. There is no water leakage. Also, since it is an excavated item, it cannot be used as a cup. However, it can be used as a vase. It is quite difficult to obtain such a wonderful work in good condition. It's a great item.
