Japanese Antique Pottery 8th-12th Centuries / Large "Sue Pottery" / Vase / Tsubo

About the Item

We Japanese introduce unique items with unique aesthetics, purchasing routes, and ways that no one can imitate. Sue pottery is called "sueki" in Japanese. Earthenware that was baked at low temperatures is now being baked at high temperatures due to the development of kiln technology. (From the end of the 5th century) Baking at high temperatures makes the pottery harder and harder to crack. The color is light gray pottery. Born in Osaka, "sueki" is gradually being made in various parts of Japan. This is a masterpiece among Sue pottery. The shape is unusual and beautiful. And the color is also beautiful. And I can hardly find anything of this size. There was an old temple called "suufuku-ji" in Shiga prefecture, Japan. It doesn't exist now, but many Sue pottery were excavated there. Among them, there was a vase-shaped Sue pottery like Chinese bronze ware. They are called "suufuku temple type Sue pottery". This item is one of them. Most of them are about 10 cm high, but I have never seen anything as big as this. And Sue pottery does not glaze. It is unglazed. However, in order to increase the firepower in the kiln, we burn the straw of plants. Burnt straw ash falls on the pottery, and the ash melts with high heat. Then it will look like a glaze. It is called natural glaze. This item also has a glossy color, and you can see the black part. It's a natural glaze. This item had more natural glaze, but the natural glaze was partially peeled off because it was sunk in the river or the sea. Also, the missing parts of the mouth are glued again. There are 4 small chips. And there are small cracks in the places marked with red circles. It can be stored in a special wooden box. I think the previous owner prepared a wooden box. It's not a high price. There are also shops that sell Sue pottery, which is rare in Japan, at a higher price. I want people all over the world to know the good things about Japan. Therefore, we are offering a not high amount. And this is the finest item in Sue pottery. It is quite difficult to get this even in Japan. Therefore, in 1st dibs, only our shop handles this item. I sell this with confidence. Also, as a reference material, similar items are published in Japanese art books. I posted the page photo of it. I find this item more beautiful than the jar of this book of art.

This is a good Chinese porcelain circular Platter or large plate, made for the export (Canton) market, during the middle of the 18th century, Qing-Qianlong period. The plate is well hand decorated with much detail in varying shades of cobalt blue, with a glaze of a very soft light blue shade.
