Exquisite Japanese museum-quality decorative porcelain vase, extremely intricately hand-painted in blue, red, yellow and green on a stunning ovoid shape body, a signed masterpiece by a highly acclaimed award-winning second-generation master porcelain artist of the Imari-Arita region of Japan. The artist is admired for his extremely detailed portrayal of historical scenes and themes combined with intricate geometric patterns and is the recipient of prestigious awards for his unique porcelain work. This magnificent porcelain piece draws its inspiration from Nanban-byobu, 17th and 18th century folding screens depicting the arrival of Portuguese traders and missionaries at the southern port city of Nagasaki. The paintings convey the awe and amusement that these first European visitors with their colorful clothes and exaggerated facial features inspired in the Japanese.
It features three round panels showcasing scenes from Portuguese missions walking in traditional Japanese settings. An intricate auspicious honeycomb pattern in shades of blue connects the three panels and continues to the rim and base of the vase.
This extraordinary hand painted porcelain vase comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist.
