About the Item

A ceramic bowl with celadon glaze by Japanese potter Ono Kotaro (Japanese, b. 1953). Named "Circular Reef", the fine porcelain bowl features an irregular edge and concentric carved rings in the interior. The surface is covered with a beautiful luminous celadon glaze, and it is marked under the base. The piece comes with its original wood storage tomobako which bears the title "Celadon; Circular Reef" and the artist's name and seal. Dimensions of the box is 5.75" x 12.75" x 12.75" inches. Living in Hokkaido, Ono Kotaro specializes in celadon glaze on porcelain using seihakuji (bluish-white celadon). His works are known for their sculptural quality that showcases undulating, linear, and carved surface patterning known as shinogi-de, aesthetics all reflected beautifully in this piece. He was the winner of the 4th Mashiko Ceramics Competition Hamada Shoji Prize.
