About the Item
This is a good quality Japanese porcelain large plate or dish or charger with an Imari pattern, dating to the mid-late 19th century, Meiji period, circa 1870.
The plate or charger is well potted with a wavy rim and a lobed cavetto having 18 radial flutes.
It is hand decorated in varying shades of under-glaze cobalt blue, then hand enamelled with blue, red, burnt orange, green and mauve/grey colors with additional gilded detail. The pattern depicts a central stylized flower pattern, surrounded by eighteen alternating panels, with floral and geometric decoration, three of them having a large lappet with a floral centre. The pattern is very well painted and gilded.
The reverse is hand decorated with three symbols in cobalt blue, with blue circles either side of the foot rim.
The base is unmarked.
Overall a very decorative Japanese Imari Charger.
