About the Item
A wonderful Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897) Korean Hakeme crackleware pottery bowl - perhaps a monk's Chawan tea bowl. The work features a beautiful sumptuous off white crackle glaze, wonderful organic shape, engaging design and nicely aged patina.
This particular piece also encompasses the Japanese/Asian Wabi-Sabi aesthetic (which is so revered and coveted in Japan and Korea) - the appreciation of beauty that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete in nature and embraces the principles of asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and the appreciation of both natural objects and the forces of nature upon them.
As this is not our area of expertise, we are listing it simply as 19th century but it could very well be much older - perhaps 17th or 18th century.
Would be a great addition to any Korean or Asian art pottery collection or make for an eye-catching stand-alone accent piece in about any setting.
