About the Item

Elegant large Chinese porcelain bowl, made for the European market in the 18th century as part of the East India Company's maritime trade. This bowl features a hand-painted decoration of stylized flowers and floral garlands, in a soft palette typical of the European taste of the time. The overall effect exudes a delicate and refined charm, faithful to the aesthetic of export porcelain known as "East India Company." The generous size of this bowl makes it a particularly interesting decorative or collectible piece. This type of porcelain was produced in China to meet the demand of European markets, particularly through the French East India Company, founded in 1664 by Colbert, minister of Louis XIV, who imported porcelain, spices, and silks. Floral decorations were highly prized by the aristocratic and bourgeois clientele of the 18th century, fond of chinoiserie and exotic objects adapted to European tastes.
