About the Item
A heavily potted and richly glazed celadon dish, Longquan kilns, early Ming Dynasty, mid 15th century, China.
The large dish glazed in a deep olive celadon. The interior of the dish with an incised geometric design, similar to a basket weave, but more likely imitating carved lacquer or cast bronze diaper grounds of the same period. The interior wall with an incised scrolling foliate motif. The back simply glazed.
The foot ring fully glazed, with an unglazed firing ring to the recessed area, burnt from the firing. The burnt ring is typical of Ming pieces.
The shape and glaze of the dish is consistent with pieces from the famed Longquan Kilns.

An unusually large Vietnamese celadon glazed stoneware bowl with carved lotus petal design, Ly or Tran Dynasty, 13th - 14th century, Vietnam.
The large bowl or offering vessel of generous proportions, rising on a short, unglazed foot ring, revealing the reddish buff stoneware body. The globular body elegantly tapered. The lower section deeply carved with a traditional stylized lotus petal design, a band of incised lines above. The upper section of the vessel ribbed, and carved with long, elegant lotus petals that taper upwards, terminating in rounded ends. Another band of incised lines circumscribe the mouth.
The vessel glazed in a wonderful olive celadon glaze. The glaze stopping neatly at the mouth rim. The transparent celadon glaze thinning slightly along the raised sections, and pooling in the recesses, adding additional depth and texture. The celadon with wonderful yellow undertones, giving an overall olive hue.

A sublime Chinese celadon glazed shallow dish or charger, Qing Dynasty, mid 18th century, China.
Beautifully glazed, with a carved decoration of a group of lotus, leaves, stalks and blossoms. The interior wall with radiating S-shaped lines, a motif that is repeated on the wide rim of the dish. The back undecorated. Glazed all-over with an even bright celadon glaze, with some attractive areas of crackle.

This is a very old interesting Chinese stoneware Longquan Celadon bowl or plate with incised decoration, which we date to the Yuan Dynasty, circa 1300.
The bowl is well potted on a low foot.
The bowl is an olive green colour having a celadon glaze with incised decoration to its centre of what looks like a flower stem and additionally three incised string lines to the outer wall. Unglazed parts fire to a terracotta brown colour as with the base section

In China, the term qingci "青瓷" (literally meaning blue-green porcelain) is used to designate ceramic objects of gray-green color, with the first character representing blue or blue-green color "青". Various epithets were used to describe this color: "heavenly azure" "天青" (tian qing), "dusty blue" "粉青" (fen qing), or "after the rain passes, the sky becomes blue" - yu guo tian qing "雨過天青", which idiomatically means the arrival of good times after troubles.
