About the Item
A fine pair of antique Chinese porcelain Wucai glaze vases modeled with leaping dragon fish or Arowana, late Qing dynasty, circa 1890, Ex Sothebys London.
The baluster-shaped vases are each decorated in high relief with a pair of dragonfish (known as Arowana), these fish are highly prized by the Chinese as symbols of prosperity
good fortune. The vases having Wucai or Five Color Glaze the pink colred fish on a greaan ground with cream colored jets of water, each vase is molded with a pair of dragon fish, dramatically leaping up the sides of each vase with a jet of water from their mouths. The rim of each vase having a key shaped border with colorful embossed cloud devices below, the base of each vase is decorated with wave patterns. The vases are marked to the underside with a raised tributary Qianlong seal mark, condition is excellent, no damage or restoration. Ex. Sotheby's London.
