A Very Fine and Important Pair of Massive Chinese Kangxi Period, 18th Century, Blue and White Covered Ginger Jars with Floral Cartouches Each of the jars is decorated throughout in blue and white, featuring reserves of floral cartouches set against patterned grounds. The body rises from broad circular feet, swelling shoulders to short waisted necks fitted with domed covers surmounted by pointed knop finials. Each jar displays alternating panels of peony, prunus, and lotus in full bloom, accompanied by smaller blossoms, branches, birds, and insects. The scenes are framed by geometric trellis borders and scrolling foliate reserves filled with stylized flowerheads. The lids follow the same decorative scheme, with floral panels enclosed by patterned borders, ensuring continuity between jar and cover. The painting is executed in varying tones of cobalt blue, with careful use of shading to bring depth to the floral motifs. The designs are distributed evenly around the surface, with blossoms and branches extending across the curved forms. The bases show the typical unglazed foot rims of the period, with the interiors covered in a thin bluish glaze. These jars are substantial in size, and remain in fabulous condition for their age. The glaze surface is intact, with the blue tones retaining their clarity and vibrancy.
