About the Item

Pair of Chinese Famille Verte male and female Buddhist lions in the style of the Kangxi period (1661-1722). Foo Dogs, also known as guardian lions or komainu, are symbolic, protective figures often placed in pairs at entrances to temples, palaces, and homes. They are believed to ward off negative energy and protect the inhabitants. The male Foo Dog typically holds a ball, representing the world, while the female holds a cub, symbolizing nurturing and family. Famille Verte is a style of Chinese porcelain characterized by its vibrant green enamel overglaze, along with other colors such as iron red, yellow, and blue. This style became popular during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic. This is a great pair nice size and look in very good condition.
