About the Item

A rare pair of Chinese, late Qing Dynasty (late 19th/early 20th century) tea-dust glazed porcelain bottle vases of elegant pear shape, well potted with a compressed globular body rising from a short foot to a slender tubular neck, covered overall in a yellow-speckled olive-green glaze, the base un-marked. Note: Chinese tea-dust glaze (chayemo) is an ancient high-fired ceramic glaze characterized by a dark, matte, or satin background speckled with fine, mustard-yellow or green micro-crystals. Named for its resemblance to ground tea leaves, the glaze originated during the Tang dynasty (7th–10th centuries) and was famously refined for imperial use during the Qing dynasty (1644–1911).
