About the Item

This petite porcelain dish from the late Qing-dynasty (1644-1911) has a whimsical design of peonies, begonias and plum blossoms, hand-painted with famille rose enamels and set against a soft orange field. The charming garden scene is dotted with insects, including butterflies for happiness, cicadas for new beginnings and katydids for success and growth. Originally finished with a gilt trim, the enameled dish has aged with time for a softened texture and subtle fading. Stamped with the reign mark of the Tongzhi period (1862-1874).
