About the Item
The soft, matte texture and eroded wear of this petite porcelain box suggest it spent many years submerged in saltwater, likely excavated from a sunken trade ship carrying ceramic exports. Dated to the 14-16th century, the small round box is shaped from white porcelain with fluted contours and cloaked in a dark cobalt glaze, now beautifully eroded and heavily crazed. Originally used for cosmetics or seal ink paste, the Ming-dynasty box lives on today as a storied container for jewelry or precious keepsakes.
