About the Item
A fine and historically significant green-glazed ceramic bowl, originating from the celebrated kilns of the Sukhothai Kingdom (13th–15th century). This rare piece exemplifies the distinctive glazing and form that made Sukhothai ceramics highly sought-after trade goods, with examples transported across Southeast Asia, including Indonesia and the Philippines.
Adding to its unique narrative, the bowl has been carefully restored using the traditional Japanese kintsugi method, honoring its history while enhancing both its aesthetic and cultural value. The piece displays expected surface wear and minor glaze erosion consistent with centuries of age, along with a professionally repaired hairline crack, now highlighted in gold.
Once part of a private Japanese collection assembled between the 1970s and 1990s, this bowl represents not only the golden age of Thai art and culture but also a cross-cultural appreciation preserved through time.
