About the Item

This is a very good example of a Shigaraki Tsubo vessel whose intended purpose was to contain water. Note the spout located at the bottom of the jar. This example of Shigaraki ware is drip glazed. The Tsubo date to the end of the Edo or beginning of the Meiji period. The intense green of the drip glaze is a mark of quality and is very desirable. **Please note there is considerable light refraction on the high gloss glaze of the Tsubo and the white marks are not flaws.
