About the Item
An exquisite small Japanese Satsuma vase decorated with butterflies, signed Kinzan, Meiji Period, circa 1900, Japan.
The small vase is delicately and meticulously painted with design of scattered butterflies against a gilt painted ogee patterned ground, The finely painted butterflies of various sizes in a multitude of vibrant colors. A small, elegant tasseled cord has been painted around the neck of the vase.
The underside of the vase with a two character mark reading Kinzan. Kinzan was a well regarded Satsuma pottery studio, primarily creating works for export to the West.
The vase of ovoid form with a recessed foot, short neck, and everted mouth. The mouth rim gilt. A delicate geometric band painted in gilt around the foot of the vase.
Works as a small cabinet vase or even a bud vase.
