A Substantial Japanese Imari Baluster Vase with Cover, Early 20th Century Description: The baluster vase with a domed lid surmounted by a perched bird in a terracotta tone, three cartouches to the dome each with scenes of further peafowl, the surrounding ground decorated with blue foliage and gold hanamusubi knots and tassels, the collar with a frieze of rural scenes, descending to the main body adorned by three central cartouche panels depicting impressive hou-ou birds and peafowl of varying red, golden and lilac tones, the ground of conforming motif to the lid, raised on a circular dark wood base. Provenance: Private Australian Collection. Dimensions: Height: 87cm. Diameter: 40cm.
