About the Item
A Chinese hand-carved yumu wood 'Official's Chair' from the 19th century, with fretwork and lacquered finish. This Chinese armchair features a rectangular pierced back accented with an exquisite carved splat, adorned with geometrical scrolls, abstract cloud motifs and fretwork motifs (some of which are missing). Two curved sloping arms are strengthened by carved supports and rest on a rectangular wooden seat. The armchair is raised on four straight legs with side stretchers, adorned with a carved skirt on the sides. With its skillfully executed hand-carved décor, its elegant lines and its lacquered finish, this 19th century Chinese Official's chair will bring a touch of exotism to any home, whether placed in an office, living room or bedroom.
