This is an antique dining hall canteen on stand. An English, oak and silver plated 12 person cutlery set, dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1910. A beguiling raised canteen with a comprehensive array of cutlery, encased in elegance Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout Superb oak stocks present a treat of fine grain interest and rich caramel hues Offering 154 pieces in total, for a near complete set — a few auxiliary pieces absent Quality silver plate and celluloid handles, with Mappin Webb maker's marks throughout Arranged as a two drawer canteen upon a raised stand, offering an extra storage drawer Field panel lid graced with an unmarked brass name plate, ideal for personalisation Lid opens to show the initial layer of cutlery, set within shaped compartments Large spoons and carving pieces present within the lid interior, with dining spoons, knives and forks below A further pair of drawers host multiple forms of cutlery, with recessed brass pulls for access Canteen removable from the stand if required, with campaign manner carry handles to sides The whole raised upon a quartet of tapering, square section legs Case presents an inset plaque for the company's iconic Queen Victoria St location in London This is a fascinating antique dining hall canteen on stand, the whole of a standard expected of a formal function and comprehensive in its breadth of cutlery. An exceptional, fine and impressive, comprehensive antique English sterling silver Sandringham pattern flatware service for twelve persons - boxed; an addition to our flatware collection The pieces of this magnificent and comprehensive antique George V English sterling silver flatware service for twelve persons are crafted in the Sandringham pattern. Each spoon and fork is embellished with a paralleling border to the handle, in addition to a pointed terminal. The original table and dessert knives, in addition to the carving set are fitted with composite handles, and the fish service and fruit service all retain the original plain rounded mother of pearl handles; each with plain ferrules. The fundamental pieces of the basic service were crafted by the Sheffield silversmith Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd between 1934-1939; these pieces will have been crafted in fewer years but due to the hallmarking system the components bear the date letters 'r', 's', 't', 'u', 'v' and 'w'. This service will have been retailed as a complete set and between the dates stated. The stainless steel blades of the original composite handled table and dessert knives bear the mark 'By Appointment to the Late King George V, Viners Ltd, Sheffield' accented with 'Stainless Deluxe'. This impressive canteen of cutlery is fitted to the original, fine and impressive oak three draw canteen table; this is an impressive piece of furniture in its own right. The table is fitted with a pair of Art Deco style gilt metal handles to each drawer, in addition to plain escutcheons. This exceptional cutlery table is supported by four plain legs with tapering knopped feet. Condition The Sandringham pattern cutlery service within this antique cutlery canteen table is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The service has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The table box has been professionally polished by a cabinet maker. The velvet interior of each draw has some wear in keeping with age, but can be considered to be in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse surface of each piece are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
