About the Item

A Japanese antique swivel chair from the early Showa period. The seat height rises as the chair is rotated, a functional mechanism once used in government-operated facilities across Japan. This piece has been carefully restored for practical use while retaining its strong sculptural presence as a display object. The arched aluminum backrest is a distinctive feature—an appealing detail for admirers of industrial metalwork. A historic crack on the back has been reinforced from behind with metal; gentle leaning is recommended. The seat has been newly fitted with fresh urethane foam and upholstered in soft moquette fabric in a calm khaki tone. The metal legs show areas of rust and texture consistent with age, which should be considered during use.
