About the Item

A pair of Art Deco lounge chairs, known as “Moon Gazing” chairs, dating from the late Qing dynasty. The chairs are crafted in solid hongmu (blackwood) with a beautiful and lively natural grain. The chairs demonstrate very fine, high-quality craftsmanship, characterised by elegant proportions. They have been gently refinished with great respect for the original character, enhancing the wood’s natural structure and warm patina. Both chairs are in very fine condition. China, late Qing dynasty, circa 1880–1900.
