About the Item

Lovely pair of Chinese officials chairs. Featuring a decorative back splat. Constructed with a mortise and tenon joinery and supported by square legs with a foot rest in the front. Also known as pagoda chairs, scholars chairs, and Guanmaoyi chairs. This pair was purchased by a Chicago area businessman during a trip to Beijing in 1996 (his name and the date are written on the underside of the chair). His family said they were purchased from an antiques dealer in Beijing that said the chairs were from early 1900 (original paperwork wasn't found).
