About the Item

Inrō with four boxes in black and gold lacquer, representing a person in a pavilion in a snowy landscape with mountain on the background. Realised in maki-e on black lacquer with smaller details in kirigane, Small boxes formed of compartments that fit one on top of the other, inrō (印籠) are traditional Japanese clothing items. Since the kimono had no pockets, everyday objects were carried in small boxes (sagemono) hung on the belt (obi). To prevent them from slipping, a netsuke, a small wooden or ivory figurine, was used to hold the cord of the inrō or other types of sagemono. The Inrō are often decorated with harmonious scenery and scenes inspired by the flora and fauna. Black and gold lacquer sageju-bako (picnic box) decorated with floral motifs in hiramaki-e. It includes a sake bottle, a four-compartment box with nashi-ji lacquer inside, a simple tray and a hollow tray. At the top, there is a bronze handle for transport. The sageju-bako is divided into four superimposed boxes for food on the left; a simple tray, a sake bottle and a hollow tray on the right. They are in the shape of a plum blossom.
