About the Item
Japanese Lacquer Hibachi (Brazier), Meiji period (1868 - 1912) Box- shaped Japanese hibachi with mother of pearl inlay, handles on two sides, and a copper insert. Family crest of the Matsunaga clan in lacquer and mother of pearl outlines. The crest is a tsuta-mon, or ivy crest, in the form of five ivy leaves. Spectacular hibachi in great condition. Due to the high level of decoration, this was a brazier most likely used to heat a kettle in tea ceremony.
