This Japanese Negoro-style lacquered table dates to the 17th–18th century and exemplifies the restrained beauty and layered surface aesthetic characteristic of Negoro lacquerware. Traditionally associated with temple furnishings and utilitarian forms, Negoro lacquer is valued for the way its red lacquer surface wears over time to reveal the black underlayer beneath, creating a richly textured and visually compelling patina.
