About the Item
A fine antique Chinese export repousse silver box.
Decorated to the lid with a central stylized depiction of the character 壽 (shòu, longevity) stylized like the Sun amidst the clouds with a phoenix to its left and a dragon to its right.
Of China's Four Symbols, these 2 together represent both young
old yang energy - the white half of yin-yang that represents the heavens (among other things).
The bottom half of the box decorated with repousse vine decoration and an applied oval foot.
Simply a wonderful piece of Chinese export silver!
