Antique South Indian Thandatti Gold Earrings – Traditional Tamil Nadu Design
A beautiful and rare pair of antique South Indian Thandatti earrings, traditionally worn by women of Tamil Nadu and the Chettinad region. The earrings are crafted from sheet 18 carat gold elements formed hollow and supported internally by a special lacquer, a classic technique that preserves their sculptural volume and strength.
Designed with bold domed forms, spheres and projecting geometric elements, the composition can be interpreted as a three-dimensional Yantra, referencing ancient South Indian symbolic geometry.
Originally made for large tribal ear piercings, this pair has been professionally adapted for comfortable modern Western ear wear, retaining all the integrity and presence of the original design.
