About the Item

"Bronze Statue Of Nepalese Tara (royal Relaxation Position), Late 19th Century" A finely cast bronze figure of Tara, seated in lalitasana (royal ease pose) atop a double-lotus base. The figure is adorned with detailed jewelry including a crown with central seated Buddha image, circular earrings, necklace, and armlets. The body is elegantly modeled, draped with a sash across the chest, and the legs feature delicate engraved scrollwork and floral motifs. The left hand rests gracefully on the base beside a stemmed lotus flower (padma), while the right arm rests on the raised knee in a relaxed and compassionate posture. The statue is traditionally sealed with a copper base plate, repoussé stamped with a vajra (thunderbolt) motif — a ritual feature characteristic of Nepalese Newar Buddhist workshop bronzes from the late 19th to early 20th century. The overall condition is very good, with natural wear to high points and traces of age-appropriate patina. The piece is free of modern repairs and retains excellent presence.
