About the Item

A Fine Pair of Japanese Cloisonné Vases with Ginbari Floral Decoration, Meiji Period (late 19th – early 20th century) Of elegant baluster form with gently flared necks, this refined pair of Japanese cloisonné vases is decorated with vivid amber-yellow roses in full bloom, accompanied by tightly closed buds and finely shaded green leaves. The floral motifs are rendered in delicate silver wire (yūsen) over a shimmering ginbari (silver foil) ground, allowing the translucent enamels to glow with depth and luminosity. Executed in the ginbari yūsen-jippō technique, the composition captures a naturalistic flow, with branches winding organically around the body. The pale celadon-toned foil background lends a soft iridescence, enhancing the contrast between the flowers and their setting. The craftsmanship is indicative of high-quality Meiji-period cloisonné, likely intended for the export market. Fitted with shakudō mouth rims, exhibiting a rich, dark patina, and silvered metal foot rims, offering a cool-toned base that complements the enamel palette. The bases are enamelled in a deep blue and remain unmarked, as is typical for cloisonné of this type. Height: approx. 15.5 cm Condition: Excellent overall condition; no cracks, restorations, or enamel losses observed.
