About the Item
An unusual and naively decorated antique Indo-Persian Hookah pipe base dating from the 18th century. The bell-shaped body has a wide flat round infilled and heavy base and is made from a pewter alloy metal with a narrow with a narrow raised top pipe holder. The body of the Hookah pipe base has a simple stipple-like design of stylized fire breathing animals possibly dragons and a snake. The animals are applied around the lower body and set between wave pattern borders of similar style. The base has a heavy metal infill which appears to be lead and the pipe base is not marked.
Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market
In good presentable condition with normal wear and small dents associated with age and use and possible old soldered repair to neck.
