About the Item
Elegant tsuba in forged iron, with a textured pattern imitating wood grain, also decorated with an openwork motif of a flower within a star, likely a mon (family crest). The tsuba is a component of the traditional Japanese sword; together with the fuchi and habaki, its primary purpose is to protect the hand of the wielder. Typically made of iron, sometimes bronze, the tsuba provides the largest surface area on the sword for decoration, resulting in a wide variety of styles, ranging from richly ornate to minimalist.
