About the Item
An unusual antique Japanese gilded bronze basket of folded paper form body with applied panels and decoration dating from the 19th century and either late Edo or early Meiji period (1800-1870). Standing on a narrow conical shaped foot the basket has a splashed gilded patterning and is applied with molded figural bronze panels, a floral sprig and a small mouse and with a fixed and raised woven chain loop handle. The basket is not apparently marked. A very fine example and a wonderful display piece.
In good original condition without loss, damage or repair.
