Rare Japanese signed round bronze plaque with "Playful Koi" design, first we have seen. Includes an authentic and original signed wooden collector box Tomobako lid with his signature Here's a beautiful and unique way to accent your indoor display space with this very unusual treasure from Japan. Artistic first! This is an attractive, fine and heavily hand cast high relief bronze round scalloped plaque displaying a playful swirling pair of swirling koi fish formed by their aristic and exaggerated lengthy tails- a refreshing contemporary design that only Japanese artisan's can express in this popular stylized manner. This koi plaque was cast in a high quality, high relief design giving an extra boost in quality and design presentation that helps define Japanese artisan mastery in metal. Three reverse footing tabs were thoughtfully cast in relief into the back of this design to provide an alternative way to display on any flat surface or may be threaded with cord for a wall mount. It is signed: by famous Nitten metal artist Tsuda Eijyu Tsuda Eiju (1915-2001) was accepted by the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition (Nitten) many times and received a grand prize in 1962. Eiju is known primarily for his bronze vases, but koi and animal themes are especially collected and cherished by colledctors worldwide. Dimensions: 9.5 inches tall and 10 inches wide and .75 inches deep. Signed reverse side Eijyu - one of Japan's award winning mid 20th century metal artisans. A complimentary display easel as shown is included so you can immediately display this rare treasure or altertnatively it may be placed it on any flat surface and it will be supported by the purposefully cast footings on its reverse side. This is a unique example of this form we have seen from this artist, having had the pleasure of handling many other Japanese fine mid century modern works of art.
