About the Item

Japanese Tomyodai, a temple light stand created of hand wrought iron in an upright form of a circle or "tama" ( flaming jewel of spiritual enlightenment ) with 13 ringlet projections to hold ceramic oil dishes (replaced with thin copper oil dishes), on a thin post stand having a tripod base. Suitable for votive tea lights. Signs of wear and encrustation, otherwise fine condition. 31-3/4 inches high x 23 inches wide x 14 inches deep (base). Edo period, circa 1800.
