About the Item
Exceptional floor lamp - lantern made of solid bronze, crafted in Japan during the 1920s Taisho period.
This historic lantern was made in Japan in the 1920s and was originally intended to illuminate pathways outdoors. In the 1930s/40s, it was converted for indoor use, still using a Bakelite socket. This socket is removable, should you wish to use the lantern in its original state.
The lantern consists of three parts: a base with a masterfully crafted dragon that winds its way upwards around the base – an exceptionally high-quality piece of work; the middle section houses the lamp, which opens via a flap; and the upper section is the pagoda, with bells on the sides. A truly magnificent piece!
The object is very heavy and solid, crafted from bronze that has been patinated – resulting in a wonderful surface effect.
Measurements approx.: height 47,24 in - 120 cm, width 17,72 in - 45 cm.
A particularly large bronze object from the Taisho period, exceptionally rare, and in remarkably good condition and complete. Treat yourself to a special piece of Japanese craftsmanship.
