About the Item
An elegant Japanese patinated bronze ikebana vase by Nakajima Yasumi II (1905 - 1986), circa 1960's, Osaka, Japan.
The tall vase of graceful form, with a high round foot supporting a cup shaped body rising to a sharp, nearly flat shoulder, and a long, slender neck with a slightly cupped mouth.
The vase is heavily cast in bronze, featuring a gorgeous patina of mottled red brown, a signature of the Nakajima family. The underside of the vase with a chiseled signature in archaic script reading "Yasumi".
The vase comes with the original inscribed kiri wood storage box, tomobako. The lid of the box inscribed and translated as "Bronze Keifuki Single Flower Vase". The interior of the cover signed and sealed "Yasumi".
Nakajima Yasumi II (1905 - 1986), born Nakajima Mitsuo, was an influential and celebrated metal artist working out of Osaka. The second generation artist took his father's name and continued the family tradition of working in bronze.
