About the Item

A pair of late 19th/early 20th century Japanese bronze candlesticks in the shapes of cranes. These date to the Meiji era (1868-1912). Each crane stands gracefully on a base, with gracefully curved necks facing downwards. These unique pieces have a rich, dark bronze finish with subtle patina, highlighting the detailed feathers. Cranes are symbols of good fortune and longevity in Japanese and Chinese culture. These are in good condition and can be used as candlesticks today, with the decorative bobeche shaped to hold tapered candles.
