About the Item
Pair of Votive Silver Cow Figures – Rajasthan, 19th to Early 20th Century
Provenance: Rajasthan, India
Date: 19th to early 20th century
Material: Solid silver
This rare pair of votive silver cow figures originates from Rajasthan, where such offerings were traditionally placed on personal or temple altars as acts of devotion and reverence.
Finely cast in solid silver, the larger figure measures 5.2 × 4.5 × 2.9 cm and weighs 18.5 grams, while the smaller is 3.6 × 2.2 × 2.5 cm with a weight of 6.2 grams. Despite their scale, both figures are crafted with careful attention to form and proportion.
In Hindu tradition, cows are deeply sacred, symbolizing purity, nourishment, abundance, and protection. These miniature silver sculptures beautifully capture the devotional spirit and refined metal artistry of regional Rajasthani culture.
A rare and evocative set of spiritual artifacts.
