About the Item

A fine Middle Eastern, possibly Egyptian, Mamluk revival hand crafted brass vase inlaid with silver and copper and dating from the early to mid-20th century. The Mamluk revival was a cultural movement during which much of the Middle East sought to preserve and celebrate the artistic legacy of the Mamluk Sultanate, a period renowned for its sophisticated craftsmanship, particularly in metalwork. This revival, emerging in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, reflected a deep respect for the opulence and intricacy of medieval Islamic art. This vase is a striking example of this revivalist spirit. It is crafted from brass and richly inlaid with silver and copper, the piece stands as a testament to the enduring influence of Mamluk design principles. Its surface is adorned with floral motifs and endless knots, scrolling patterns and Islamic script. The vase is not marked. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market. In excellent overall polished condition with a bit of unevenness and denting to the foot rim.
