About the Item

A pair of antique Japanese candlesticks, likely dating from the Meiji Period (1868-1912) or potentially earlier Edo Period. These are known as shokudai (燭台) in Japanese, and this particular style, often with a spike for holding the candle, is frequently found in Buddhist temple altars. These are likely bronze, and have beautiful and incredibly detailed scrollwork and impressed patterns. May be used as decorative accessories, or made into lamps
