A gorgeously designed and ornamented, well-crafted Japanese Nichiren Shu Buddhist traveling Zushi Buddha shrine. Per our Japanese friend, to the left is Shaka Nyorai (Shakamunibutsu) and on the right, is Taho Nyorai. In the middle is the Treasure Tower of Lotos Sutra. The Buddhist monk Nichiren Shonin (Japanese Buddhist monk and founder of a sect of Buddhism that bears his name. He believed that the true teachings of the Buddha were found only in the Lotus Sutra) sits in front. As a whole, the scene represents the ceremony in the air of the Lotus Sutra. A unique and engaging work.
This work dates back to the latter part of the Edo Period (1603-1867).
