About the Item

This calligraphy, which is filled with a large amount of text, is said to be the work of Higuchi Kiku(樋口喜久).
Though she is not a well-known artist, it has an elegant style.
Higuchi Takayuki(樋口敬之), who is believed to be the father, was adopted by Higuchi Issai(樋口一斎), a calligrapher from the late Edo period. Higuchi Issai is said to have written "皇朝千文" (a calligraphy model and reading and writing textbook), and served the Emperor.
Perhaps as a mark of respect, the calligraphy is inscribed "Compiled by Higuchi Takayuki," and it is noted that "皇朝千文" was the work of his father (grandfather).
The author's signature is at the end.
"不省女喜久謹書" The seal reads "樋口喜久" and "香菊."
"喜久" is likely pronounced "Kiku," and is likely a female character.
The front is in relatively good condition, with one repair.
The back has several signs of repairs.
